Mise-en-scene

                        Mise-en-scene project

The goal for our project was to make a characters style, way of living, clothes, hobbies, and mood board based on the prompt. Over all, just to give life to the character. Our character was
A woman named Robin Campbell who is 52 who is a retired singer and a mother, she sees her family very little and spends her free time babysitting the neighboring children.

We illustrated her music taste which was old music and jazz, her apartment in chicago that had a brown and white vibe, but not too modern. Also her makeup and skin care, along with that what she wears and her hair
Here are some examples:

We organized our station by making the first computer show her outfits, physical looks and description. The next computer had the mood board showing her colors, appartment and where she lives. The 3rd one had her music taste with a disk that people can click and it plays her music. The last computer contained her make up and skin care. Lastly, the objects that represented her were a microphone and a guitar tuner since she was surrounded by music.

Through out this we developed the set design as in her apartment and location, formalism when we made the mood board since it was packed with photos of her style, props when we brought in the objects, makeup design, and costume design.

Horror genre

                                                 👻Horror genre👻

Halloween is coming up and many people turn on their tv to get a scare, but what makes people want to watch it? Who watches it? How is it effective

The primary Target is mostly young adults and teenagers from 15-25. They like the thrills and the intense feeling of being scared like a release of emotion. The Gender is aimed slightly more at males, since they are seen as enjoying violence and intense thrills more, but lots of females are huge fans. The audience  want an escape from real life by focusing on a monster instead of their own problems. It's a social thing, too so it's fun to get scared with a group of friends.

context-

Our fears about society, our bodies, the unknown, and death. It's usually a fight between the innocent and evil.

The Killer/Monster: This is the main threat. It could be a: psychopath, supernatural things (ghosts, demons). Non-human thing (aliens, zombies, or a terrifying animal). The Victim: Often a group of young people and they often break a rule or make some type of ritual as a joke. For example in "Tarot" kids fool around with these tarot cards and end up making a ritual by accident and ruin their lives. The Survivor is usually a girl. There often a smart, pure, or morally good character who survives to the end. Ex- "In The Conjuring" movie ed and Lorain warren both are the good and fight against evil in all of the 4 movies.

The visual style is designed to make people jump and feel uneasy while watching the movie. Directors tend to use Low-Key Lighting, which there are deep shadows and very dark areas. For example in "sinister" they use a lot of low lighting in order to add a scary/gloomy mood. Jump Scares are used often in horror films and these are sudden loud noises and quick images that make people literally jump. Point-of-View Shots make the audience see what the killer or monster is looking at. This puts the viewer right into the scary situation. The music is very important and it's usually an ominous and malevolent sound to make the tension build and build.

Selling a horror movie is all about mystery and buzz. The trailers will only show hints of the the threat/ evil one. They never show the best scare because they want you to see the movie. Posters usually feature one simple, scary image, like a mask or a weapon. The age rating is mostly rated R or 18 plus, it's the selling point because it shows the movie is intense and adult. Sometimes, companies use real-life prank. They want to make the horror feel real before the movie even comes out. Ex- In the movie smile they hired people to go to famous sports games and just smiler at people. Also, for the movie pearl, in the poster they put the psychopath with blood as you see in the picture below.

The exorcist- This is widely thought as one of the scariest movies ever made. The story is about a twelve year-old girl named Regan who became possessed by a powerful demon. Her mother tries to find a medical or scientific cure first. When all else fails, she calls in two Catholic priests, Father Karras and Father Merrin. The film contains horrifying special effects and uses the controversial theme of a child victim. It explores deep religious fears about good, evil, and the battle between her soul and the demon. It was shockingly controversial when it was released, causing people to faint in theaters.

Halloween- This film is a definitive slasher movie classic. The killer is Michael Myers, an escaped patient from a mental hospital. He starts his violence by murdering his older sister on Halloween night when he is only six years old. Fifteen years later, he returns to his small hometown of Haddonfield. Michael relentlessly stalks a teenage babysitter named Laurie Strode and her friends. The film uses the "Final Girl" trope, where Laurie is the one character who survives the nightmare. The threat feels real because Michael is an unnervingly quiet, human killer with supernatural persistence.

Sound projects

                                    Sound projects☺

Before we started the sound project we learned many things about it. How sound is so important it can create a story without visuals and how sound creates an environment. In the first sound project we had to make a story with only sound, then on the second sound project we had to add sound to our one word project which had no sound at first.

My first approach on project one was to plan it all out and then film foley with the final part to edit. During our brain storm me and my parter were first thinking of a place with a lot of noice. Then, we wrote them down in order to help us organize.

Finally, when we edited we used a lot of layering and faded in and out the sound in order for it to be smooth. I believe that we did a great job and there isn't much to improve, but I feel like we could've came up with a better story.
