Portfolio Project Genre #1

                              sad/ emotional

The typical target audience for this genre is usually from teenagers to adults. Teenagers share the feelings of a breakup and loneliness. During that stage they tend to have more emotions and have a bigger reaction to the genre. In the films with this genre characters have an arc where they find themselves and that connects with the teenagers because through that phase the have to figure themselves out. With adults they understand the world more and have a deep understanding in the genre and can connect with the loss of someone.

Sad film often are dramas or tragedies happen, directors use type conventions to make the audience feel a deep feeling of empathy. A huge convention is using illnesses, forbidden love, or the death of a pet or a close relationship. These movies use low-key lighting and colors like greys and blues are used to give character gloom, also with tight close-up shots to show that the viewers every tear and expression of pain. The diegetic sound is usually a sad type of orchestra with slow piano or violin melodies that make people be sad.

A big part of this is the narrative is the specific vibe or idea of the movie created. For a sad film, the company builds image by focusing on the tragic story or  a character that makes people cry. Marketing conventions through trailers using slow burns and editing shots of characters looking lonely infant of big landscapes.
